The design of my lampshades was inspired by the beauty of nature. First I only made printing on paper. The will to have these lit from behind was an idea that I haven't seen anywhere else. I wanted to create canvases with woodcut prints that have built in light source, which would have given a luminous image as a final result.
I am happy to be able to print with wood, and my dream of illuminating my prints is realized in the form of a lampshade.
These handmade products represent the unique printing style of the woodcut. To reveal the age of a tree that was cut, the surface needs to be burnt and then cleaned with a metal brush. Followed by rinsing and varnishing, the cut is ready to be printed on the decorative surfaces.
Everything begins with searching a woodblock. I often walk in the woods. I am meditating unconsciously. Even though it hurts to see the emptiness that is left behind after deforestation, most of the times I find my very first, and indispensable material around these areas. A slice of wood.
Keeping nature in mind, I try to purchase all the raw materials necessary for the fabrication from suppliers close to me.
For example, my prints are reprinted on Oeko-Tex certified fabric by a company located in France.
I deliver my products as conscientiously as possible. I try to wrap my products for shipping in materials that has paper as a basic component.
Preserving the integrity of nature has always been important to me.
Personally, I try to live my everyday life with the smallest ecological footprint possible.
